The Swifties know that Taylor Swift is the brains behind the creation of more than just her own songs. “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna is a huge hit written by Taylor Swift for another artist.
If you listen closely, you can hear her backing vocals on the track. Swift may be the biggest pop star in the world today, but in the 2009 Disney Channel canon, Hannah Montana took that crown.
Taylor Swift has a cameo in the Disney Channel original movie “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” but what you may not know is that she wrote the lead track on the movie’s soundtrack. The singer is responsible for two of the movie’s catchiest songs – which, given Swift’s current success, may not be too much of a surprise, after all.
Taylor Swift Wrote “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” From The Hannah Montana Movie
You Can Change Your Hair And The Vocalist On Your Song
In 2009, I can remember the feeling of watching “Hannah Montana: The Movie” in my purple Hannah Montana pajamas flecked with paint stains from childhood arts and crafts. At the time, I truly thought that Hannah Montana was the biggest pop star in the world.
When “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” echoed through my living room, an earworm was implanted in my brain forever. At the time, I didn’t know that I was witnessing the beginnings of a legend’s career.
Myself and every early 2000s kid have Taylor Swift to thank for this empowering track.
The producers of the film asked Swift if she would be willing to provide some of her music for the movie, and she was ecstatic to be involved. The song is a perfectly crafted pop hit; Swift knows how to make the formula work.
The charm of this song to me is the way it speaks to its target audience. This song encourages kids to find comfort and support in their roots and communities.
Even today, it is comforting to know that I can change my hair, my clothes, my style, and even my mind, but I can always fall back on those who love me.
Swift Also Appeared In The Movie To Sing Her Song “Crazier”
This Was Swift’s First Movie Appearance
Taylor Swift is not only the brains behind one of the most defining tracks of the movie, but she also made an appearance on screen. In the movie, Miley attends a fundraiser barn party where Taylor Swift performs the slow country ballad “Crazier.” The song is so early Taylor Swift; it is a dreamy love song about being swept off your feet. In the production notes for the movie (Visual Hollywood), Swift says that she didn’t write the song for the movie, but when she sent it in to the production team, they fell in love with it.
Critics in 2009 felt that Swift’s performance upstaged Miley Cyrus in her own film. A TV Guide review praised Swift for her authenticity and charm, something the writer claimed Miley Cyrus lacked in her role. While I think this critical review of Cyrus is unfair, “Crazier” is certainly a highlight of the movie.
Will “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” & “Crazier” Become Taylor’s Versions?
Crazier Things Have Happened
Swift did recently show “Crazier” some love at her Edinburgh Eras Tour stop. She performed the song as one of her famous bonus songs, accompanying herself on the piano.
Hearing the song with her current vocal strength and style feels like a full circle moment. When “Hannah Montana: The Movie” was released, Swift was 19 years old. At 35, her voice is stronger and richer, and it is surreal to hear the vast distance between the present and the early 2000s in her performance.

Taylor Swift still has Taylor Swift and Reputation rerecordings to go, and there are several remaining songs she could include as vault tracks.
“You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” and “Crazier” are not owned by Scooter Braun. He sold the rights to all of her earliest masters in 2020, according to Variety. This doesn’t mean much, because she has released Taylor’s Versions in the last five years, but it is worth noting. “Crazier” deserves more love and I would be happy to hear “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” in Taylor Swift’s matured voice.
