Despite being a top-five pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Lance has struggled to see the field throughout his professional career.
The young quarterback has appeared in only 12 games since entering the league, starting just one contest for Dallas during the 2024 season.
Lance started the Cowboys’ regular-season finale, going 20-for-34 through the air for 244 yards.
Lance was the third quarterback on the Cowboys’ depth chart for much of his stint with the team. Cooper Rush was primarily Prescott’s backup, seeing extended action after Prescott went down with a season-ending hamstring injury.
Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ chief operating officer and co-owner, told The Dallas Morning News at the NFL scouting combine that he didn’t expect Lance to return for the 2025 season. New head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterbacks coach Steve Shimko mentioned to Jones they want the team to draft a quarterback to develop.
After his lone start of 2024, Lance kept his cards close to the vest when asked about his playing future. The signal caller mentioned he was just “looking for an opportunity.”
It appears Los Angeles will give Lance the opportunity he’s seeking.
