WHAT HAPPENED? Dodgers drop three straight with 8-2 defeat vs. Nationals

The Dodgers are now 1-4 in their first road trip of the season, as they dropped their second straight game against the Washington Nationals by a final score of 8-2.

With Blake Snell recently placed on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation, left-hander Justin Wrobleski was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to get the start on Tuesday.

The Dodgers were tasked with facing right-hander Brad Lord, who made his first career major league start for the Nationals. His first career strikeout was of Shohei Ohtani (quite a remarkable milestone), before completing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits punching out four.

The Nationals got to Wrobleski quickly with a two-run laser beam home run from James Wood. Wrobeski got two quick outs in the bottom of the second before the floodgates opened for Washington. A single from Dylan Crews was followed by three consecutive free passes, allowing Crews to score. Keibert Ruiz’s two-run single gave Washington an early five run lead, and Wrobleski finished his first two innings with 50 pitches under his belt.

Wrobleski followed up a clean seven pitch inning in the third by experiencing similar troubles against the bottom of Washington’s lineup, putting Crews and Jacob Young on base to lead things off. An Alex Call sacrifice fly made it a six run game before Wood teed off again for his second home run of the game, his first career multi-home run game.

The Dodgers finally cracked the scoreboard in the fifth inning against right-hander Orlando Ribalta, as Andy Pages launched his first home run of the season into the Dodgers bullpen.

Kiké Hernández now has four hits on the season. All of them have sailed out of the yard.

Shohei Ohtani erased an 0-4 performance with a single into right field, extending his league best on-base streak to 28 games dating back to September of last season.

The Dodgers have dropped two straight series against NL East opponents, sliding down to third in the National League West standings while sitting 2 1⁄2 games back of the San Diego Padres for the division lead.
