Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs made the move for receiver DeAndre Hopkins to bolster Patrick Mahomes’ weapons as the hunt for a third successive Super Bowl was the target.
Hopkins, in his 10 games, posted 437 yards and four touchdowns from 41 receptions in the regular season, while having just three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ three playoff games.
That isn’t great production, and as such, the Chiefs didn’t bring back Hopkins. But the Baltimore Ravens signed the veteran in free agency. However, according to The Athletic’s Mike Sando, one NFL executive offered a brutal evaluation of Hopkins in Baltimore.
“D-Hop, that doesn’t do anything for me. He’s just a name at this point,” the executive said.
Yikes. That’s a rather brutal take on Hopkins.
So, it appears that the former Chiefs receiver is seen as nothing more than a “guy” on the Ravens roster.
But as we saw last season, Hopkins still had some really productive games, with 86, 56, and 90-yard games, along with six games of 29 or more yards, but it appears that isn’t enough to shift the thinking of this NFL executive.
Time will tell if Hopkins works out in Baltimore, but his time in Kansas City was productive…sort of, but he didn’t have the best postseason many thought he would have.
Now with a new team for a full offseason, maybe the Ravens see something in Hopkins that the Chiefs and the executive don’t.
Either way, that’s a brutal evaluation of a three-time All-Pro receiver.
