It didn’t hurt that his counterpart wasn’t much better, as Purdy finished 17-of-31 for 212 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. He bested Mahomes with two rushing touchdowns, but they didn’t make much of a difference to help overcome his other mistakes.
Kansas City chose to rely on the ground game with its star signal-caller struggling. Veteran running back Kareem Hunt continued to turn back the clock with 78 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Veteran receiver Mecole Hardman added an 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for the Chiefs.
Still, fans on social media were left unimpressed with both Mahomes and Purdy, and they let their feelings be known during Sunday’s game:
The Chiefs have proved to be able to win in a variety of ways this year, and staying undefeated when Mahomes isn’t at his best is no easy task. If they can keep this up, it can be expected that they will achieve the first three-peat in NFL history.
Kansas City will look to improve to 7-0 when it takes on the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday
