The Red Sox will pay tribute to Luis Tiant and the 1975 team that won the American League pennant.

Baseball is finally back at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox will host their 125th home opener — and 114th at Fenway — on Friday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals, with Boston looking to win its first since 2020.
“It’s always a good vibe,” Alex Cora said of the expectations for Opening Day. “It’s always a good vibe when you come here and it’s Fenway Park. … It’s a good feeling. Like I said in spring training, we have a good baseball team.
“We’ve just got to keep working hard to keep gaining momentum, playing better baseball. We’re going to grow as a team.”
As part of the festivities for Opening Day, the Red Sox will honor the 1975 team that won the American League pennant — with several players from that squad expected to be in attendance at Fenway.
Friday’s ceremony will also honor Luis Tiant, a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame who played a key role in that run to the 1975 World Series. Tiant — who became a beloved figure in Boston due to his corkscrew delivery, workhouse mentality, and colorful personality — died in October at age 83.
While first pitch against St. Louis is slated for 2:10 p.m., fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 1:30 p.m. for the start of the ceremony.

Along with the ceremony involving the ‘75 team, both the Red Sox and Cardinals’ full rosters will be introduced at Fenway — while the “Star Spangled Banner” will be performed by the Boston Arts Academy “Treble Allstars.”
The national anthem will conclude with a fly-over by two F-35’s flown by the 134th Fighter Squadron, Green Mountain Boys of the Vermont Air National Guard and one KC-46 from the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing.
