New Sports Illustrated mock draft sends the Chiefs a running back with 31st pick

On Thursday, Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano published a new mock draft that sent a running back to the Kansas City Chiefs with the 31st pick of the first round.

31. Kansas City Chiefs: RB TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State

The Chiefs pass on a tackle here and go all in with their risky signing of Jaylon Moore to play left tackle. Henderson can help this offensive line and Patrick Mahomes in various ways. His elite speed makes him a big-play threat, which they lacked in the backfield last year while rotating Kareem Hunt and a hobbled Isiah Pacheco.

In the 88th mock draft we’ve added to our 2025 database, we finally ran across one that picks a running back for the Chiefs.

In this one, Henderson is the third running back selected in the first round. (Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty is taken with the sixth pick, while North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton comes off the board at 12).

Also gone before Kansas City goes on the clock: Tennessee EDGE James Pearce Jr. (15th), Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams (17th), Marshall EDGE Mike Green (19th), Michigan DT Kenneth Grant (23rd), Ohio State T Josh Simmons (25th), Texas T Kelvin Banks Jr. (26th), Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart (27th), Ohio State G Donovan Jackson (28th), Oregon DT Derrick Harmon (29th) and Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka (30th) — although Mississippi DT Walter Nolen and Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr. are still available.

So, depending on Kansas City’s draft board, Henderson might be the best player available in this scenario. And it’s certainly true that many believe the Chiefs need a running back from this draft. But in the first round? Is that possible?
