IMPORTANT UPDATE: Andy Reid Shares Huge Rashee Rice Injury Update at NFL Owners Meetings

As the NFL offseason rolls on, Kansas City Chiefs fans wonderwhat the future holds for wide receiver Rashee Rice.

After all, Rice’s barely touched the field during the 2024 season.

The 2024-year-old playmaker suffered a serious injury when he collided with quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Week 4, which ultimately kept him out for the remainder of the regular season and the entire NFL playoffs.

However, it’s been nearly six months since disaster struck, and Chiefs fans are eagerly curious if Rice will be healthy in time for the upcoming offseason activities. Fortunately, head coach Andy Reid just provided an update that Kansas City fans will surely love.

Andy Reid Says Rashee Rice ‘On Track’ for Training Camp

During this week’s annual NFL meetings, Reid was asked about Rice’s injury situation. The Chiefs HC told Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell that the team expects the young WR to be ready for training camp, barring any setbacks.

“He’s on track to be ready (for training camp),” Reid said about Rice. “We’ll see. He’s working his tail off right now, I know.”

The latest update surrounding Rice’s recovery is exactly what Chiefs fans needed after injuries plagued the WR room in 2024.

Only five Kansas City wideouts hit double-digit games played last season, with Xavier Worthy and the now-departed Justin Watson being the only pair to play in all 17 games.

The rocky ride only further illustrated the team’s need for Rice to make a full recovery.

Drafted 55th overall in 2023, Rice burst onto the scene as a rookie, racking up 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 79 catches in 16 games. He added another 26 receptions for 262 more yards and a TD in four playoff appearances, playing a significant role in the Chiefs’ most recent Super Bowl win.

Rice was on pace to exceed those totals before disaster struck in October. The former SMU product had tallied 24 receptions for 288 receiving yards and two scores, putting him on track for a 102-1,224-9 stat line had he been healthy enough for all 17 contests.

Even when a quarterback is as talented as Mahomes, having a healthy WR1 is needed for the offense to play to its full potential. Now that Rice seems to have put his injury woes behind him, all that’s left to find out is whether or not he’ll face punishment stemming from a Texas-area car crash last March.

If he can stay out of off-field trouble, Rice is in a good spot to be the difference-making playmaker Kansas City needs him to be.

In the meantime, the Chiefs will continue marching toward the 2025 NFL draft with the fourth-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+850) on FanDuel Sportsbook
