March has been nothing short of a bizarre month for the Miami Heat. Just less than two weeks ago, Miami was on the heels of a 10-game losing streak that had seemingly derailed its season.
Now, with the month officially behind them, the Heat enter April riding a fresh five-game winning streak — seemingly reversing the tides of momentum with the NBA playoffs right around the corner.
Miami’s recent streak marks its longest stretch of consecutive victories this season, with a 120-94 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday keeping the momentum rolling into the regular season home stretch.
Bam Adebayo led the way for the Heat in win number five, tallying 28 points and 12 rebounds on the evening. Other key contributors in Miami’s recent run include Tyler Herro, who previously tallied a pair of back-to-back 30-point performances, and Andrew Wiggins, who scored 42 against the Charlotte Hornets to start the streak off.
Monday’s win also gave the Heat sole possession of the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference. They were previously tied with the Chicago Bulls, who dropped to 10th following a blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Miami now sits just 1.5 games behind the Orlando Magic for the eighth seed in the conference.
Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, it appears that the Heat’s destiny of landing in this year’s play-in is all but sealed. Nevertheless, with potential home-court advantage and a now season-best win streak hanging in the balance, there’s still plenty left for Miami to play for this month.
