Guti Backs Xabi Alonso as Ancelotti’s Successor at Real Madrid

With speculation mounting over Real Madrid’s managerial future, club legend Guti has endorsed Xabi Alonso as the ideal replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

Despite Ancelotti’s contract running until 2026, rumors persist that he could leave as early as next season, particularly with Brazil’s national team still keen on appointing him.

Alonso’s Impressive Rise

Speaking on El Chiringuito TV, Guti highlighted Alonso’s outstanding work at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has turned the club into a serious Bundesliga contender. “What he did last year in Germany is reason enough to give him a chance at Real Madrid,” Guti said.

Alonso took charge of a Leverkusen side with no Bundesliga titles to its name, yet under his leadership, they have emerged as one of Germany’s most dominant teams. His success has put him firmly on Real Madrid’s radar for a future managerial role.

Ancelotti’s Future in Doubt

Guti suggested that if Alonso weren’t available, Ancelotti might have had a stronger case to remain at Madrid, even if the club failed to win trophies this season. “If Xabi Alonso wasn’t in the picture and the club wasn’t so interested in him, Ancelotti might have stayed even without silverware,” he noted.

However, Alonso’s tactical expertise, player development skills, and deep connection to Real Madrid make him a natural successor. Reports indicate that the club’s hierarchy is seriously considering him as their next head coach.

Will Alonso Return to Madrid?

While no decision has been made, Alonso’s growing support—both from within the club and from former players—suggests he is a strong contender. If Ancelotti departs sooner than expected, Real Madrid could turn to their former midfield maestro to lead the team into a new era.
