Liverpool are expected to retain Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, despite the likelihood of losing Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer to Real Madrid, according to Tim Sherwood.
The contractual situation of the three players at Liverpool appears to be reaching a conclusion, with Salah and van Dijk set to extend their stay at Anfield. While this is a significant boost for the club, the departure of academy product Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid would be a major setback for Arne Slot’s squad ahead of the next season.
Liverpool’s right-hand side has been a key source of creativity and goals throughout the current campaign, helping them establish a 12-point lead over Arsenal in second place with nine games remaining. However, securing new deals for Salah and van Dijk—who both have under six months left on their contracts—could provide a crucial advantage in the Premier League title race and help ease the need for a full squad rebuild in the summer.
Former Tottenham and Blackburn midfielder Tim Sherwood believes Salah and van Dijk will remain at Liverpool, while also insisting that Alexander-Arnold’s decision to join Real Madrid should not be held against him.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (March 29, 1:53 PM), Sherwood said: “I think Mo Salah stays if they meet his contract demands. I don’t see Real Madrid as an option for him. I really believe Virgil and Mo Salah will stay at Liverpool.”
He added: “When Real Madrid comes calling, it’s hard to say no. We’ve all been players—we understand the appeal of that white shirt. It’s a tough offer to turn down, so good luck to him.”
