The match was sent to an extra period after Mayfield led the Bucs 81 yards down the field to score the game-tying touchdown with 27 seconds remaining.
To start overtime, both quarterbacks made their way to midfield for the coin toss. Before the lead official discussed the overtime rules with the two stars, Mahomes had a message for Mayfield regarding his late-game touchdown.
“Hell of a drive dog,” Mahomes said to Mayfield as they greeted each other with a hug. “Great game man. Always with us two, baby.”
"Run it…give him the ball."

Unfortunately, Mayfield called tails, and the coin landed on heads, giving Mahomes the choice of kicking or receiving. He chose to take the ball and led the Chiefs 70 yards in just under six minutes before running back Kareem Hunt scampered into the end zone for six and the win.
Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl champion, finished the night completing 34-of-44 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns. His newest weapon, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, showed why Kansas City traded for him with eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Mayfield, on the other hand, also had a solid performance, with 200 yards through the air on 23-of-31 passing and two scores, all without his top two receivers, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans.

Kansas City still remains the lone undefeated team in the NFL, sitting at 8-0 heading into Week 10, where they will face their AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos, at home.
After starting the season 3-1, Tampa Bay has now dropped four of its last five contests, falling to 4-5 on the season. Mayfield and company will get a battle with the 2023 runners-up, the San Francisco 49ers, in their next game.
