Chiefs Find Chris Jones Replacement in Latest NFL Mock Draft

Much of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason headlines have been dominated by the offensive line and the dire need to improve it.

Jaylon Moore was signed to be the starting left tackle, but there are still big question marks over Patrick Mahomes’ protection, given what we saw in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

But that isn’t the only position that needs a good hard think about for the franchise.

The other is the defensive line.

Chris Jones can’t play forever, and in an ideal world, the Chiefs would draft his replacement before he calls it quits. In ESPN’s latest mock draft, that’s exactly what Kansas City does, selecting Georgia Bulldog Mykel Williams.

“The Chiefs took care of their most glaring roster need in free agency by signing left tackle Jaylon Moore, so they should use this pick as a step toward building the overall talent and depth on their roster,” ESPN writes. “Williams has moments of greatness- he combined for four sacks in two games against Texas in 2024- but also tends to disappear.

“He was slowed this season by an ankle injury, yet he showed toughness and glimpses of his ceiling.”

Williams has been a solid source of production in his three years with Georgia, totaling at least 4.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss in each season. Bringing that to the Chiefs, along with working with Jones and George Karlaftis, could elevate Williams’ game.

Possessing good length, size, and power, Williams, per most scouts, still needs to refine his game, but when you have the chance to learn from someone like Chris Jones, that will only mean good things for the defender.

Yes, the Chiefs have offensive line needs, and that might be the way the franchise goes in the first round, but keeping getting Jones’ replacement might be a good avenue to explore too.
