Grammy-winning musician Justin Vernon, best known as the frontman of Bon Iver, has made it clear that working with pop star Taylor Swift was a career highlight for him.
Speaking on The New York Times podcast “Popcast,” Vernon shared his thoughts on collaborating with Swift, specifically on the 2020 hit song “Exile” from her Folklore album. “I love the Taylor song a lot,” Vernon stated.
“It was a rare time where they wrote the song-her and Joe Alwyn and Aaron Dessner-and were like, ‘We want you to sing this part.'” Vernon explained that the experience was different from his usual creative process.
“It was kind of awesome to be given a specific vision,” he said. “I added my little bits here and there, but it was just so enjoyable.”
He even recalled recording his part alone during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I was just looking out the window. Like, a bird was watching me do it.” The collaboration proved to be a significant moment for Vernon, who referred to it as “one of my favorite collaborations.”
Beyond Folklore, Vernon contributed to Swift’s follow-up album, Evermore, released later in 2020.
He appeared on the album’s title track, further cementing his place in Swift’s indie-folk era.
Despite the wide range of artists he has worked with, Vernon’s collaboration with Swift clearly holds a special place in his heart. While Vernon continues to praise his work with Swift, the pop sensation has been making headlines for more than just her music.
Swift has been enjoying a break from her record-breaking Eras Tour, spending quality time with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss, Kelce has been seen traveling with Swift during her tour hiatus.
Per Page Six, the couple has taken trips to locations like the Bahamas and Los Angeles, enjoying their time away from the public eye.
