Liverpool has signed off for the international break off the back of an awful few days which saw it exit the Champions League and lose the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
The Reds were the pre-game favorites to clinch glory at the national stadium but goals from Newcastle United duo Alexander Isak and Dan Burn secured a first major domestic trophy for the Magpies since they won the FA Cup in 1955.
Federico Chiesa scored in stoppage time to hand the Reds hope of taking the game to extra time, but they could not find a second goal before the final whistle. In truth, Liverpool didn’t deserve anything more than a defeat.
Next up is a visit of Everton but that doesn’t come until the start of next month. In the meantime, you can expect plenty of transfer rumors with Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Morten Frendrup and Victor Osimhen among the names in the gossip columns over recent days.

No Pedro release clause
Brighton & Hove Albion will not allow Joao Pedro to leave for a cheap fee this summer, with TBR Football claiming the striker doesn’t have a release clause and is very much in the Seagulls’ long-term plans. Liverpool has been linked with a move for the former Watford forward, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United are said to be ‘admirers’ of the
Liverpool could try and sign Victor Osimhen this summer, claims his international team-mate William Troost-Ekong. The on-loan Galatasaray striker is expected to leave Napoli this summer and several Premier League sides have been linked with a move for the striker. Nigeria captain Troost-Ekong believes Osimhen will play in the Premier League next season and mentioned Liverpool when discussing possible summer transfers.
“I know he’s a Chelsea fan, but I also know he’s had talks with all the top teams. It’s up to him what he chooses. He will fit into every team,” Troost-Ekong told talkSport. “I know Liverpool have spoken about getting a new striker next season. We will see. I’m also reading, like everyone else is, that he has a clause this summer. When he went to Galatasaray I think it worked out amazingly for him. I couldn’t see him playing there for another season, or anywhere else but the Premier League next season.”
Liverpool reportedly looked into a surprising transfer for Victor Osimhen before the transfer
Newcastle adamant Isak is ‘not for sale’
Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is adamant that star striker Alexander Isak ‘will not be going anywhere’, reports the Daily Mail. The Swede has been linked with a move to Liverpool while the Mail claims Barcelona is also monitoring the 25-year-old. However, Newcastle’s chief decision maker has told club officials to ‘resist any offers’ for Isak, with an asking price not even discussed internally. The Magpies also reportedly plan to offer the attacker a new contract on improved terms.
Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a summer transfer
Liverpool is reportedly monitoring four Bundesliga players ahead of this summer’s transfer window. According to Sports Bild, Nico Schlotterbeck and Konstantinos Koulierakis are targets for the Reds, while Ansgar Knauff is being considered if Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool. But it’s Jeremie Frimpong’s name that will be most recognisable for Liverpool fans. Bild claims Arne Slot and the Bayer Leverkusen defender ‘communicate regularly’, with Frimpong’s contract including a €40 million ($44m/£34m) release clause that could be triggered this summer.
Carragher wants summer additions
Jamie Carragher has called for Liverpool to make up to six major signings this summer. “I’m excited to see where Arne Slot will take Liverpool because it looks like they’re going to win the league, but there are still so many areas to improve,” he said on the latest episode of The Overlap Fan Debate.
“He needs a center-back as back-up to the two that we have, he’ll need a right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to leave. I think he needs a center midfielder to replace [Wataru] Endo, someone younger and that he trusts, a center forward to play and a left winger. There are at least five or six players he needs to get in – three to go straight in the team and three to be strong back-up.”
