BREAKING NEWS: Rashee Rice’s workout news is heartening for Chiefs fans wondering about his future

Between his injury and legal problems, it’s hard to say when Chiefs fans will see Rice play again.

Rashee Rice looked to be picking up steam to what Kansas City Chiefs fans were hoping would be an incredible sophomore season in the NFL. Unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to be, as Rice suffered a knee injury in the Week 4 win over the Chargers.

The injury ended Rice’s season before it ever really began and it was a huge blow to the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps. Rice had compiled 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns before the injury occurred and that’s what made the incident even worse. Right as it looked like the Chiefs might have a superstar in the making for Patrick Mahomes to throw to… poof, he was out for the year.

We hadn’t heard much about Rice’s health since then (though Andy Reid did provide a positive update before the Super Bowl) but it appears that he’s now healthy enough to work out with some of his peers in the offseason.

A post surfacing on social media revealed that Rice was working out with fellow wide receiver Stefon Diggs and quarterbacks Tommy DeVito and Geno Smith.

While on the surface this might not seem like much, it’s good to know that Rice is taking part in workouts with other NFL players after being away from the game for so long. It’s good to see him doing things that healthy players would be doing, but there’s another factor that could keep Rice off the field next year.

Rice was involved in a multi-vehicle crash while speeding that led to injuries and brought about 8 felony charges by the end of the investigation. He was not placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and was allowed to play this past season, but a lengthy suspension has been expected to be levied on Rice at some point before the ’25 regular season begins.

If Rice can return to the lineup, it’d be a huge spark to the Chiefs’ offense in 2025. They’ll have Xavier Worthy returning after an impressive rookie season, with Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster also coming back into the fold. Throwing Rice into that mix would give Mahomes the best group of receivers he’s had in quite some time.
