Chiefs Facing Backlash for Free Agency Decision

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a couple of intriguing moves in free agency, rebuilding their roster in preparation for another Super Bowl run.

Kansas City is fresh off a 17-3 season, having entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the AFC before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

As the Chiefs work to rebuild their team, they have signed running back Elijah Mitchell, as well as other contributors to the lineup.

Mitchell will now be wearing No. 25 for the Chiefs, which is a prideful number for fans in Kansas City.

Former NFL running back Jamaal Charles, who played for the Chiefs from 2008 to 2016 previously wore No. 25.

While Charles had an incredible career in Kansas City, he had an injury-riddled ending, having suffered an ACL and meniscus injury that set him back.

Charles’ legacy in Kansas City has lived on, leading some fans to call the move of giving Mitchell the opportunity wear No. 25 “embarrassing.”

“Constantly. All the [expletive] time. It’s embarassing,” said one fan.

“Nah, but for real, greatest chiefs RB just gettin handed out like that is wild. that man definitely deserve more respect,” said another fan.

“Why we just giving Jamaal Charles number to anyone?” mentioned one fan.

“That’s embarrassing. Do better Chiefs,” commented one fan.

“I’m gonna say this until the day I die. Jamal Charles jersey should be in the rafters. Nothing against anyone else who would wear it but they just aren’t going to be two-five,” said one fan.

“Nooooo not 25,” said another fan with two broken heart emojis.

During his time with the Chiefs, Charles established himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL. He was named a second-team All-Pro in 2012 while receiving two First-Team All-Pro nods in 2010 and 2013 and four Pro Bowl selections.
