UPDATE: Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis injures his left ankle in a loss to the Detroit Pistons

Lakers star Anthony Davis hurt his left ankle late in Los Angeles’ loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.

“Landed on the spot that’s been killing me,” said Davis softly after the Pistons won 115-103.

Davis went up for a layup and, after being fouled by Pistons center Jalen Duren, he fell to the court and grabbed his left ankle.

“I’ve been managing it since last summer,” Davis explained.

Despite the injury, Davis stayed in the game and kept scoring, finishing with 37 points, just one day after setting a season-high 38 points in a win over Toronto.

The 31-year-old Davis is currently leading the league with 32.6 points per game, following an impressive season in which he played a career-high 76 games, despite his history of injuries.

Two hours before the game in Detroit, Davis was one of two Lakers doing shooting drills to warm up.

“He’s a pro’s pro,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said. “There’s a reason why he’s had the career he’s had and why he’s going to be in the Hall of Fame. It’s not just because of raw talent, but because he’s a worker and loves the game.”

Los Angeles will finish its five-game road trip on Wednesday night at Memphis.
