Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to listen to offers for midfielder Yves Bissouma during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to former Spurs scout Mick Brown, the 28-year-old no longer fits into manager Ange Postecoglou’s long-term vision for the club.
Brown, who previously served as chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, has strong ties within the football world and shared with Football Insider that Bissouma is likely to be moved on as Spurs look to reshape their midfield. The club has already begun identifying potential replacements, with strengthening the squad a key priority after what has been a disappointing season.
Tottenham’s Decision on Bissouma Comes Amid Contract Uncertainty
Bissouma’s future at Tottenham has been a topic of discussion in recent months, and on March 3, Football Insider revealed that the club planned to hold “crunch talks” with the midfielder regarding his role in the squad.
By the summer, Bissouma will have just one year remaining on his contract, which is set to expire in 2026. As things stand, no negotiations have taken place regarding a renewal, making the upcoming transfer window Spurs’ last realistic opportunity to secure a transfer fee for him before he becomes eligible to negotiate a free move in 2026.
Given the club’s need to refresh their squad, particularly in midfield, Tottenham are now considering their options and are expected to be open to offers for the former Brighton star.
Bissouma’s Mixed Form Under Postecoglou
Since Postecoglou took charge, Bissouma has played a significant role, making 33 appearances in all competitions and starting 21 games. However, his recent form has seen him fall down the pecking order, with the midfielder starting on the bench in four of the club’s last five matches.
Mick Brown, who played a crucial role in scouting top talent during his tenure at Manchester United, acknowledged Bissouma’s quality but admitted that his performances have been inconsistent since arriving in North London.
“I’ve always thought he was a good player,” Brown told Football Insider. “He could be a real asset to somebody, but his form at Tottenham has been up and down. I’ve been surprised at how much his levels have dropped.”
Brown suggested that Bissouma may not have adapted well to Postecoglou’s system, adding that the Malian midfielder is likely better suited to playing in a deeper role where he can dictate play with the game in front of him.
“I don’t think he fits in with what Postecoglou is trying to do, and he’s not really going to be part of his long-term plans,” Brown continued. “They’ve got other options in midfield that he prefers, and I hear they’re going to look to sign somebody new.”
With Spurs looking to bolster their squad in key areas, the scouting department is already working on securing a replacement, ensuring that any departure would not leave a gap in Postecoglou’s plans.
Tottenham’s Summer Overhaul: Richarlison Also Linked with Move
Bissouma is not the only high-profile player who could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer. Brazilian forward Richarlison has also been linked with an exit, with former club Everton reportedly exploring a potential move to bring him back to Goodison Park.
According to Football Insider, Everton manager David Moyes is expected to discuss the feasibility of a deal for the 27-year-old attacker. Richarlison, who left the Toffees for Spurs in a £60 million move in 2022, has struggled with consistency at Tottenham and could be tempted by a return to Merseyside.
On March 12, Football Insider reported that Richarlison would be open to rejoining Everton if the opportunity arose. However, financial constraints could make a deal difficult, especially with competition from Saudi Pro League clubs who are also monitoring his situation.
As Tottenham prepare for a crucial summer transfer window, the potential departures of Bissouma and Richarlison could signal a major squad reshuffle under Postecoglou. With Spurs eager to bring in reinforcements and refine their squad to suit the manager’s tactical approach, the coming months will be pivotal in shaping the club’s future direction.
