It’s been over a month since the Kansas City Chiefs fell short of making history, missing out on the NFL’s first-ever Super Bowl three-peat with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.With free agency in full swing, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is making moves to reshape the roster. One of those decisions hit home for fans, as the team parted ways with a player who won two Super Bowls with the team: offensive guard Joe Thuney.The Chiefs agreed to trade Thuney to the Chicago Bears on March 5, but with the new league year not officially starting until March 12, the move wasn’t finalized until then.

Now, one day after Thuney officially became a Bear, the Chiefs posted a message on social media saying their goodbyes.
“A champion through and through. Thank you for everything, Joe Thuney 👏,” they wrote.
Thuney was a third-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2016 NFL draft. During his five seasons in New England, he played a key role in protecting legendary quarterback Tom Brady and helped the team win two Super Bowls.
In 2021, he signed a five-year, $80 million deal with the Chiefs, where he has been a cornerstone on the offensive line for the past four seasons.
In a likely effort to cut cost, the Chiefs avoid his final season’s cap hit of $26.972 million.
