Before becoming an NBA icon with the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry made a name for himself at Davidson College. His legendary run with the Wildcats, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2008, cemented his status as one of college basketball’s most electrifying players. Now, over a decade later, Curry is returning to his alma mater, but this time in an entirely new role.
On Monday, Curry agreed to take on the position of assistant general manager for basketball at Davidson. While Curry’s new position is being celebrated, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr already has some lighthearted concerns.
When asked about his superstar’s latest venture, Kerr made it clear that he considers the title more “ceremonial” than anything else. Kerr also jokingly admitted if Curry does ask for time off to recruit a future Wildcat, it might be hard to say no. I
“If he asks to leave for a game to go scout college, I’ll probably say no. But it is Steph Curry, so I’ll probably say yes. I just hope he doesn’t ask,” Kerr said.
Reportedly, Curry’s new role will involve guiding both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Curry has now become the first active major professional athlete in the U.S. to hold an administrative role with an NCAA team.
Stephen Curry Weighs On His New Davidson Role

In a statement released by the school, Stephen Curry expressed his deep connection to Davidson. He also shared his desire to help future student-athletes enjoy the same experience he had.
“The Davidson experience is top-notch. My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni, and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high-character student-athletes to have that same experience,” Curry said.
With five straight wins, the Warriors are surging lately in the Western Conference. Kerr and the Warriors hope that Curry will keep his focus on the NBA playoffs rather than scouting for Davidson.
