BREAKING: Boston Red Sox Get Huge Prospect Updates at Spring Camp

Spring training is officially in full swing as the Boston Red Sox are gearing up for the MLB regular season. Over the past week, some players have missed time due to illness.

WEEI’s Rob Bradford reports good news for Boston: star prospects Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony are back in camp. Mayer could be in the lineup soon, but Anthony isn’t ready to get back into action.

While Mayer may not break camp with the Red Sox, he has been productive in his seven spring training games, hitting a home run and a triple and slugging .588.

On the other hand, Anthony had a rougher time with the flu bug that’s been going around camp. Boston’s potential breakout outfielder reportedly lost up to 10 pounds while dealing with the sickness.

Alex Cora has already mentioned that he is unsure what some of the lineups will look like this week, as many players are still recovering. Along with Anthony and Mayer, Triston Casas, Romy González, and Seby Zavala were all out of camp late last week due to illness.

Anthony is the second-ranked prospect in baseball and, barring any setbacks has a good chance to be an impactful player for Boston this season. Losing 10 pounds from the flu isn’t the best start to his potential rookie season, but at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he should have no problem putting that weight back on.
