Liverpool is reportedly keen on signing an English winger after Borussia Dortmund lowered their asking price by £25 million.
The club is said to be among those interested in Dortmund’s left winger, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who may now be available for a reduced fee.
The England U21 international joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and has been linked with Liverpool multiple times this season.
According to German sources, the Reds continue to monitor Gittens, with journalist Fabrizio Romano previously revealing that club scouts have watched the 20-year-old on several occasions.
A recent update from Sky Germany strengthens reports of Liverpool’s pursuit, stating that Dortmund is “internally preparing” for the potential exit of their No. 43 at the end of the season.
Other clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich, are also in the race, while the Premier League is considered Gittens’ “dream move.”
Sky Germany further notes that Dortmund’s failure to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League could push them to sell.
With 10 Bundesliga games remaining, Dortmund sits in 10th place, just five points off fifth, which secures a Europa League spot. The club has not finished lower than fifth since the 2014/15 season and has played in the Champions League for nine consecutive years.
Initially, Dortmund valued Gittens at €100 million (£82.7 million), but this figure is now seen as unrealistic. A more reasonable price range of €60 million (£49.6 million) to €70 million (£57.9 million) is being suggested.
The winger has made 94 appearances for Dortmund’s first team, contributing 16 goals and 10 assists while continuing to develop as an attacking threat.
Though primarily a left winger, he has also played on the right 15 times and once as a central attacking midfielder.
Gittens has been a regular for England’s U21 squad over the past two seasons, including scoring a goal assisted by Harvey Elliott in a 7-0 victory over Luxembourg last year.
Liverpool already has strong depth on the left wing, with Cody Gakpo and the versatile Luis Diaz, raising questions about their reported interest in Gittens. However, potential tactical adjustments under incoming manager Arne Slot could alter their transfer priorities.
Diaz has been linked with Barcelona, with his contract entering its final two years in July, while Darwin Nunez is rumored to be leaving amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, speculation continues over Mohamed Salah’s future, as he has yet to agree on a contract extension despite wanting to stay.
Although Gittens is not a direct replacement for Salah due to his preferred position on the opposite wing, Liverpool remains a possible destination as they look to reshape their attacking options.
