Calls Mount For Chiefs to Sign $140M WR in Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs had their fair share of problems at the wide receiver position during the 2024 NFL season.

Rashee Rice and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown were limited to four and two games, respectively, which forced the Chiefs to make a midseason trade to acquire DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. Rooke Xavier Worthy, however, proved he could be a top target for Patrick Mahomes in the future.

Going into free agency, which begins March 12, the Chiefs may have to address the wide receiver position once again with five current wideouts on expiring contracts. And some fans are calling for Kansas City to sign Davante Adams.

On Tuesday, the New York Jets revealed that they have released Adams, who still had two years remaining on his five-year, $140 million contract. The former Green Bay Packers receiver proved he could still play at a high level in his lone season with New York, recording 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns.

We have released WR Davante Adams.

Although it is unrealistic given the Chiefs’ current salary cap situation ($17 million above the cap), NFL fans believe Adams is the perfect fit for Mahomes and Kansas City. They took to social media to urge the team to go after the three-time All-Pro.

“The Chiefs are going to sign Davante Adams…” one fan said.

“The Chiefs NEED to check in on Davante Adams,” added another.

“Hopefully the Chiefs sign Davante Adams,” wrote a third.

“I bet Davante Adams sign with Chiefs. I’ll wait,” commented a fourth.

“Davante Adams going to the Chiefs,” posted a fifth.

“Davante Adams on the Rams would be elite.. but he should go to the Chiefs,” added a sixth.

Adams would certainly provide Mahomes and the Chiefs another pass-catching weapon to go along with Worthy and tight end Travis Kelce. However, they won’t likely be able to get Adams unless he agrees to a very team-friendly deal.
