Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns may be coming to an end. There was speculation about a potential mid-season trade, including a possible reunion with the Golden State Warriors. Nevertheless, Durant shut down any move midseason.

However, the situation may change in the offseason. On ESPN’s NBA Countdown, Shams Charania revealed that Durant and the Suns are expected to work together on a trade to a contender.

Unless there is a significant run here into the playoffs for the Phoenix Suns, league sources believe that there will be real changes coming to the Suns. From a roster standpoint, that likely starts with Kevin Durant. This offseason, from my understanding, what it would look like is that the Suns and Durant will work together on any potential trade to a contender,” Charania said.

The Suns had previously attempted to strengthen their roster by acquiring another star player. Reports suggested that they pursued Jimmy Butler before he ultimately landed with the Warriors.

After that move fell through, Phoenix reaffirmed its commitment to Durant for the remainder of the season. But with the team struggling to find consistency, questions about their long-term strategy remain.

If the Suns and Kevin Durant do work together on a trade, it could mark another significant shift in his career. Charania also later noted that Durant remains a highly sought-after player.

“I would expect four to six contending teams with some serious involvement in Durant. He’s still playing at a really high level. He’s extension-eligible in the offseason too,” Charania said.

Durant joined the Suns in the middle of the 2022-23 season after spending two and a half seasons with the Brooklyn Nets. The move was made with championship aspirations in mind. Because Phoenix built a star trio consisting of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. However, despite their combined talent, the Suns have failed to establish themselves as a strong contender in the Western Conference.
