REPORT: Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet Gives Reaction To New (Unique) Nickname

Garrett Crochet Gives Update On Red Sox Contract Extension Talks

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet has been bestowed a very, very unique nickname.

NESN’s Lou Merloni has started calling him “The Pig.”

Yes, it’s a term of endearment. Merloni came up with the descriptor after watching the young ace for the very first time, saying it was the only way he could accurately describe how “filthy” the pitcher was.

How does Crochet feel about it, though?

“I like ‘The Pig,’” Crochet said in an interview with the “Section 10” podcast on Friday. “It’s blowing up in my Instagram comments. My wife thinks it’s hilarious, so I’m just rolling with it for her sake right now.”

Merloni spent the last several weeks hammering the nickname home, so you can expect it to stick around for a while. Crochet is expected to start on Opening Day in Texas, which will be the first of hopefully many National Pig Days.

The Red Sox hope so, anyway.
