Manchester United U18s secured a dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over Arsenal to book their place in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals, with Jaydan Kamason delivering a standout performance that has sparked discussions about his first-team prospects.
Kamason Shines in Thrilling FA Youth Cup Win
United started strongly, with Jack Fletcher opening the scoring after 30 minutes with a stunning long-range strike. However, Arsenal responded just before halftime, as Louie Copley lifted a clever finish over Tom Myles to equalize.
In the second half, 15-year-old Max Dowman won and converted a penalty to put Arsenal ahead. But United refused to back down. Kamason produced a brilliant strike late on to force extra time, and substitute Bendito Mantato sealed the win with a close-range finish. Arsenal’s hopes faded further when captain Will Sweet was sent off in the final moments.
Adam Lawrence Raves About Kamason’s Display
After the match, U18s manager Adam Lawrence spoke to the Manchester Evening News about Kamason’s impressive performance, describing him as one of United’s best players on the night.
“Jaydan has been in really good form lately, putting in strong and consistent performances, as you’d expect from a second-year U18 player here. He’s a fantastic kid—very athletic, loves to get forward, and that goal will be a special moment for him.”
Lawrence also emphasized Kamason’s work ethic and steady development:
“There’s no magic wand—it’s all about deliberate practice. He’s always been a full-back who likes to attack, and his final ball has improved significantly. He wears opponents down, is very athletic, and impacts the game in the final third.”
Could Kamason Be a Wildcard Option to Replace Amad?
With Amad Diallo ruled out for the rest of the season, Manchester United have struggled to replace his attacking presence, particularly in the right wing-back role. Diogo Dalot has been filling in, but many fans have been frustrated with his performances, arguing that the lack of options is hampering the team.
While Joshua Zirkzee has been deployed as a right-sided forward at times, Kamason’s attacking instincts and energy down the right flank make him an interesting alternative. His performance against Arsenal highlighted his ability to push forward effectively, something Amad excelled at before his injury.
Although Kamason lacks first-team experience, his raw ability and attacking intent could offer Amorim an unexpected solution to the team’s current issues on the right. With Lawrence confirming that the 18-year-old loves to push forward, the message will likely reach Amorim as he considers his options.
Kamason may not be a like-for-like replacement for Amad, but his potential to provide an extra attacking threat from right wing-back could make him a valuable wildcard option for United’s first team.
