Garrett Crochet Gives Update On Red Sox Contract Extension Talks

The Boston Red Sox traded for their ace of the future in Garrett Crochet. Now, they have to extend him.

Crochet came to the Red Sox after the blockbuster trade with the Chicago White Sox with two years remaining of team control. Boston needs to make the deal worth to retain one of the sport’s most talented young starters. Crochet’s sample size is limited to one full season in this role, but the results speak for themselves.

He’s already worth an extension, especially given the competitive market the Red Sox would face for him in free agency after the 2026 season. That’s certainly something Crochet has a stance on.

“For me and my personality, as soon as I was traded over here, I want this to be a place where I can run myself into the ground,” Crochet shared on the “Section 10” podcast this week. “No regards for the rest of my career. I want to give everything I have to this season and not have to worry about potential implications that happen in the long term. That’s just the kind of guy I am. I wanna leave it all out there on the field any time I make a start.”

The Red Sox have approached Crochet about an extension earlier this winter that he remains open to, though there haven’t been significant reported updates in recent weeks on that front.

“As far as the extension stuff goes, it’s got to work for both sides but I look forward to having those conversations,” Crochet added.

Crochet makes the most sense to take the ball as the Opening Day starter when the Red Sox open the season on March 27 against the Texas Rangers.
