BOSTON — Jaylen Brown put together an exceptional scoring night for the Celtics, though he lost out on valuable minutes to make it an even better one against the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.
Brown scored 37 points on 13-of-24 from the floor in 34 minutes. That’s very efficient, but the Celtics star sat for an extended segment of the third quarter when he picked up his fourth personal foul. That’s when Cleveland really turned around an early 25-3 deficit to best Boston 59-42 in the second half for a come-from-behind win over the Celtics.
“I think that changed the game,” Brown told reporters at TD Garden. “I got an offensive foul called on a rebound. I feel like it was just in the paint fighting for the basketball and it kind of just shifted the game for sure. It is what it is. Wish we could get it back.”
Brown felt strongly about the foul being called to begin with, which limited his impact from growing even more in a strong effort. Brown and Jayson Tatum made history for their duo with a combined 83 points, though that wasn’t enough for the Celtics, especially with only six points from the bench.
“I don’t think it was a foul, I don’t think it was an offensive foul,” Brown added. “When these little guys just fly up, they’re inclined to call it.”
Brown and the Celtics continue their seven-game homestand with another legitimate test Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
