Erik ten Hag has delivered a stern message to current Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim in his first major interview since departing Old Trafford.
Ten Hag Reflects on United Exit
The Dutchman’s time at United ended in October 2024 following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium. Despite winning both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, his struggles in the Premier League and Champions League ultimately led to his dismissal.
Following Ten Hag’s departure, United appointed Amorim after his impressive spell at Sporting CP. However, the 40-year-old’s tenure has been difficult so far, with United currently sitting 15th in the Premier League, a staggering 34 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Ten Hag’s Warning to Amorim
A teaser clip for Ten Hag’s upcoming sit-down interview was released on social media Monday morning, in which the former United manager appeared to send a message to his successor.
In the clip, Ten Hag stated:
“We’ve had many highs at Man United, but as I always say: there is always room for improvement. Good is not good enough.”
The remark has been interpreted as a subtle warning to Amorim, who has been under increasing pressure due to United’s poor league form.
Ten Hag Opens Up About His Future
During the interview, Ten Hag also admitted he misses Old Trafford, despite the difficulties he faced during his tenure.
Since leaving United, the 55-year-old has been linked with several clubs, including Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, and Feyenoord. However, he confirmed that he will not return to management until the summer, saying:
“I’ve already decided not to take any job until the 1st of July, so until the start of the new season.”
The full interview is set to be released on Tuesday.
What’s Next for Manchester United?
Amorim and his squad will look to turn their fortunes around when Manchester United return to Premier League action on Wednesday night, facing Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
With United struggling in the league, all eyes will be on Amorim to see how he responds—not only to Ten Hag’s comments but also to the challenges he currently faces at the club.
