For the third straight year, the Kansas City Chiefs offense, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has failed to have a wide receiver reach at least 1,000 receiving yards.
It’s clear that it’s a position the Chiefs have lacked for a number of years, and to solve this, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News predicts that Kansas City will sign wide receiver Keenan Allen through free agency.
“The Chiefs keep going through veteran receivers, but the difference here is that Allen is a dedicated big slot who can consistently get open for Patrick Mahomes on intermediate routes,” he wrote.
“He’d also provide a veteran contingency if tight end Travis Kelce retires. The 32-year-old pass-catcher would play well off youngsters Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice.”
Chicago Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen (13) Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images Daniel Bartel-Imagn Images Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler, is coming off a down year with the Chicago Bears, starting 15 games and racking up 70 receptions, 744 yards, and seven touchdowns on 121 targets.
However, even those numbers would have made him the most effective wide receiver in Kansas City, putting him over Xavier Worthy, who racked up 59 receptions, 638 yards, and six touchdowns.
If the Chiefs did want to get Mahomes some more help, they would need to be able to spend some money, as Spotrac currently also predicts Allen will fetch a contract worth $22 million over two years.
