Taylor Swift and Beyoncé had to employ intense workout routines to prepare for their tours. A professional athlete decided to try it too.

In recent years, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have put on massively successful world tours. These long shows require endurance and a great deal of preparation. Both singers rely on similar workout routines to get ready for their tours. It’s impressive enough that a professional athlete decided to try it out for himself.

Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have a similar workout routine

In her Eras Tour, Swift performed for over 180 minutes a night. She spent months preparing for it.

“Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud,” Swift told Time. “Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”

She also focused on strength training and dance.

“Then I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones,” she said. “I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”

According to NBA player Kevin Garnett, Beyoncé trains similarly.

“[Garnett] is like ‘How do you think Beyoncé’s in such great shape?’” former NBA player JJ Redick said on The Bill Simmons Podcast (via Time). “And I’m like, ‘Uhh, I don’t know.’ One time I saw her working out, and she was doing her dances and she was singing while she was doing her dancing.”

After watching Beyoncé exercise, Garnett decided to try out the workout for himself.

“So then I’m thinking to myself, maybe I should run and sing at the same time,” he said. “So in the offseason, I would go to Malibu and I would go down to the beach, and when I run on the beach I would be like ‘Lalala lalala lalala,’ while I’m running.”

He found that it helped him, even if he wasn’t preparing for a world tour.

“So then, when I get on the court and I’m getting back on defense and I’m talking on defense, I don’t get tired.”

Their preparations have led to highly successful tours

The work Beyoncé and Swift did to prepare for their tours paid off. Beyoncé’s 2023 Renaissance World Tour grossed close to $600 million, making it one of the highest-grossing tours of all time.

Swift’s Eras Tour made over $2 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time.
