Jaylen Brown injury: Celtics star sits for crunch time in Raptors win

Jaylen Brown

The Celtics secured.their sixth straight win on Tuesday night against the Raptors but may be dealing with one more injury for one of their stars moving forward. Jaylen Brown sat the final 3:19 of the Celtics’ 111-101 victory while looking hobbled for much of the second half with a leg injury.

Brown finished with a game-high 24 points in 33 minutes but appeared to suffer a leg injury with 8:14 left in the third quarter after a collision with Raptors forward Jonathan Mogbo on a drive to the basket. Brown turned the ball over on the play and immediately fouled Mogbo.

Joe Mazzulla took Brown out of the game after the sequence as he hobbled to the bench before his usual second half rest. Brown also got some attention from Boston trainers upon hitting the bench. The All-Star forward sat out the remainder of the third quarter but returned for the start of the fourth quarter. He produced well for most of the final frame, scoring a team-high eight points in the final period but the game was still up for grabs when Brown was pulled from the game with 3:19 remaining and the Celtics holding a 104-95 lead. Neemias Queta finished the game over Brown with the All-Star wing showing a clear limp during some sequences in the frame.

Mazzulla told reporters in Toronto that he pulled Brown for crunch time due to some leg tweaks he suffered during the game.

The Celtics have a back-to-back looming against the Pistons on Wednesday night in Detroit, which puts Brown’s status into question for an intriguing matchup against a red-hot Pistons squad. The Celtics should have some reinforcements back in the lineup by then with Jrue Holiday (rest) and Al Horford (toe) expected to be available for the second half of the back-to-back. Kristaps Porzingis was a late scratch against the Raptors due to illness so his status remains questionable.

Brown missed two games before the All-Star break with a knee injury and has appeared in 49 of the Celtics 58 games this season.
