Miami Heat and New York Knicks Among Favorites to Land Former MVP

The Miami Heat are not contenders right now. They have looked like a play-in team this entire season and no longer have their best playoff performer having traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors.

It is always about winning in Miami though. So, do not be surprised if the Heat swing for the fences and try to recruit a superstar in the near future.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is someone whose long-term future has been thrown into doubt lately.

Giannis has already won a Championship with the Milwaukee Bucks but he seems to be looking for sustainable success. If he can’t find that, he might look elsewhere in the future.

Shams Charania says Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to stay in Milwaukee, but if he doesn’t see sustained long-term success there, he will look elsewhere

If Giannis were to leave the Bucks in the future, and that is a big if, then there is not expected to be any lack of suitors for one of the best players in basketball and a perennial MVP candidate.

The New York Knicks have been placed as the early favorites to land Giannis by bookmakers. The Brooklyn Nets are second and the Heat third.

Of course, if the Heat were able to land Giannis, then he would be their biggest acquisition since a certain LeBron James. We all know how that story unfolded.

That being said, it often feels like the Heat are always discussed as a potential destination for superstars these days but rarely does anyone end up there.

They have been linked with the likes of Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell and plenty of others in recent seasons without landing any of them.
