Spring Training is officially underway, as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs were the first two teams to compete this Thursday.
Both teams had some of their most talented players taking part in this game, including Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Bobby Miller. Miller, a former first round pick of the Dodgers, had a breakout campaign in his rookie season in 2023.
He started 22 games, and had 11 wins and 119 strikeouts. Unfortunately, 2024 was much worse, as he was limited to only starting 13 games while dealing with a shoulder injury for most of the season.

In the third inning against the Cubs, Miller was struck in the head by a 106-MPH line drive from Cubs’ Michael Busch. Luckily, Miller was able to walk off the field.
But there will inevitably be testing to confirm there are no lingering issues such as a concussion, and at this moment there is no timetable for his return.
The current Dodgers rotation is extremely deep, and their rotation is currently projected to be without him for Opening Day (per Fangraphs’ Roster Resource). With this injury, Miller’s chance to break camp with the Dodgers might have gone down to zero.
