It’s hard to argue there are two bigger stars in the United States at the moment than Taylor Swift and Caitlin Clark. In 2024 Swift wrapped up her massive global Era’s Tour, while Clark broke WNBA records en route to winning the WNBA Kia Rookie of the Year award.
In light of her massive success as a rookie, new Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White has made an interesting comparison between the two stars.
“I think first and foremost, she does an outstanding job of managing it all. Like, she’s incredibly humble,” White said in an interview with The Athletic.
“She understands the big picture. So she views it understanding her celebrity, No. 1. But No. 2, she’s a Midwest kid, a Midwest person and she is who she is. She tries to live her life in an authentic way. But she’s very much Taylor Swift 2.0.”
White then acknowledged that the franchise has to come with being the face of the franchise and even the league for some people.
“How do we help her protect her peace? Because it can be a lot. How can we be a resource for her? It’s a different level now with social media and fan engagement. We want to be a resource and help protect her.”
Fans reacte to White’s proclamation on social media.
“lol, if I were her, I wouldn’t want to be compared to Taylor, that’s an insult these days,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here… I’m no fan of Swift’s music or really her schtick, but she is a global force of nature. Clark not even in the same league, no pun intended,” one fan added.
“Caitlin Clark is Caitlin Clark. She is one of a kind,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Clark can live up to her coach’s lofty expectations.
