The NBA All-Star break has reached its lull with the weekend’s festivities behind us, but that doesn’t mean storylines around the league aren’t still developing. Boston went 39-16 in the first half of the season and aims to take a jump over the next couple of months as they pursue back-to-back championships.
The Celtics had Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum represent the organization as All-Stars. Following the All-Star Game, Brown spoke with reporters and revealed some surprising information about his physical condition, which might explain some small changes to his game this year.

Jaylen Brown revealed to reporters that he’s currently at 238 pounds, adding that he was up to a heaviest weight of 245 pounds this summer.
Brown is listed at 223 pounds on NBA.com. It looks like the California product decided to bulk up in preparation for Boston’s extended season. Having more muscle on your frame allows players to absorb more contact and play through injuries. But the flip side is that it can sometimes slow players down or affect their mechanics if it’s not done carefully.
As Boston seeks to make another deep postseason run, Brown plays an integral part in the team’s success. This season, the 28-year-old averages 22.9 points, six rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
The four-time All-Star is known for being an active and superb defender. During the 2024 NBA Finals, Brown was the primary defender on Luka Doncic, making him work for every basket that he scored.
The Celtics played in 101 games last season, including the playoffs. That’s a long stretch of games, so the wear and tear on players’ bodies is something that doesn’t get discussed enough. Brown putting on more weight during the offseason highlights an area he wanted to improve on.
The extra weight hasn’t affected Brown’s athleticism on the floor, which is a positive. With two and a half months left of the regular season, Brown is looking to close things out strong and be ready to roll during the postseason.
