Breaking: Lakers coach JJ Redick’s loses home in LA wildfire, Lakers-Hornets game postponed

LOS ANGELES – Thursday night’s game at the Crypto.com Arena between the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets has been postponed as multiple fires continue to rage across LA County.

Hundreds of thousands of residents remain evacuated, including Lakers head coach JJ Redick, who shared his family was evacuated in the Palisades Fire.

“Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family,” he said before a game earlier this week, ESPN reported. “I know a lot of people are scared. So, I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”

Days later, ESPN reported his home was lost in the flames, as well as others team personnel.

“We’re with you, LA” the Lakers wrote on social media.

While the Lakers game was postponed, the Clippers-Nuggets game was not postponed and the Clips played as scheduled on Wednesday night.

Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard made his highly anticipated return last week. However, it was announced he stepped away from the team ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup so the NBA superstar could be with his family, who were also evacuated.

“That’s the most important thing. Family, friends and loved ones. You definitely have to care of home. So, he totally has my support 100% checking on his family and kids and making sure they’re well,” Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue told reporters Wednesday.

While Lue confirmed that Leonard and his family are ok, the status of their home remains unknown.

A new date for the Lakers-Hornets game has not been announced. As far as the Clippers, their next game is set for Saturday night at the Intuit Dome against Charlotte.

The NFL is also monitoring the situation and is prepared to move Monday’s game between the LA Rams and the Minnesota Vikings to Glendale, Arizona.
