In a recent press conference, France’s head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Kylian Mbappé will return to the national team for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final against Croatia in March. Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid in July 2024, was notably absent from the French squad during the October and November fixtures. Deschamps attributed this absence to a combination of factors, including Mbappé’s need to acclimate to his new environment in Madrid, personal challenges, and physical issues. However, the coach emphasized that the forward has regained full fitness and remains deeply committed to the French team. Deschamps stated, “He’s very attached to the French team, even if he’s had a complicated personal period. He’s back to full fitness, and you can see that in his game, and in his head too.”
Despite previous omissions, Deschamps plans to reintegrate Mbappé into the squad, maintaining his leadership role. The coach also addressed his own future, indicating he will not extend his contract beyond 2026. French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo noted that discussions about a successor are premature, but Deschamps expressed support for Zinedine Zidane as a potential future coach for France.
Mbappé’s return is highly anticipated as Les Bleus prepare for their crucial match against Croatia, aiming to advance further in the Nations League.
