Super Bowl 59 at the Superdome in New Orleans was memorable for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift, but for the wrong reasons.
Kelce’s Chiefs got boat-raced by the Philadelphia Eagles, falling 40-22 and missing out on becoming the first team in NFL history to win back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
Kelce himself had a minimal impact in the game, finishing with just four catches for 39 yards after being held without a reception in the first half for the first time in his playoff career.
Swift, on the other hand, was audibly booed by Eagles fans near the beginning of the game after she was shown on the stadium’s Jumbotron.
The “Fortnight” singer played it off calmly, flashing a coy smile while asking Ice Spice, who joined her in her Super Bowl suite, what was happening.
While most Eagles fans and Swift nay-sayers got a kick out of what happened, Kelce was reportedly angry with how his girlfriend was treated for seemingly no reason.
“Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless,” a source told the Daily Mail. “Seeing the look on her face got to him.
He always protects her and it broke his heart.
He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.”
According to Page Six, Kelce’s mom, Donna, and dad, Ed, were just as shocked and distraught as their son was when Swift was heckled. “Travis’ family felt awful when Taylor was booed,” a source told the outlet.
“They don’t think anybody deserves that.”
While Swift did nothing to antagonize Eagles fans leading up to the game, many believe she was jeered so loudly because those fans felt abandoned by her – Swift grew up an Eagles fan, and her dad Scott boisterously displays his Philly fandom.
Once Swift and Kelce started dating, she understandably so began repping the Chiefs at games and she threw her support their way because of her association with Kelce.
