Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys’ son Genesis might have one of the sweetest friendships in the world of showbiz.
While the duo sent the internet into a frenzy after a video circulated of them dancing together at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, they actually go way back, having initially crossed paths six years ago.
Their unlikely friendship began at the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles in March 2019 when Taylor, 35, and Genesis, now 10, were seated close to each other.
Genesis was just four years old at the time and was perched on dad Swizz Beats’ lap when he caught sight of Taylor and began waving – and she reciprocated.
Their sweet interaction took place while Alicia, 44, was on stage accepting the Innovator Award, and she jumped at the opportunity to make a joke at their expense.
Addressing the audience, Alicia said: ‘Actually, my son Genesis is maybe trying to take Taylor out later tonight.
‘He’s working on it – not sure how it’s gonna go but it looks pretty good right now!’
In 2023, Alicia took her son, who was then eight, to go and watch Taylor perform during her Eras tour.
The pair were seen adorably waving at each other as Alicia accepted the Innovator Award
And it ended up being a particularly memorable experience for the youngster, as Taylor wrote him a personalized letter to thank him for attending.
If that wasn’t enough, Genesis also got to gift Taylor a wristband and pose for photos with her too.
Alicia took to Instagram to thank Taylor for the amazing performance and showed off the handwritten note her son received from the popstar.
She captioned the series of snaps of them at the concert, which was held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, ‘Big love to Taylor Swift for your big beautiful spirit that makes everyone feel loved!
‘Genesis adores you.’
Alicia showed the note, which was addressed to Genesis, it read: ‘Gen, Hi my friend!!
‘I was so excited when I heard you were coming tonight!! I hope you have so much fun at the show. I’ll be waving at you. Love, Taylor.’
Genesis smiled from ear to ear when he saw the letter.
In one of the photos, Taylor planted a kiss on the youngster’s cheek as they embraced.
In April 2024, however, their friendship hit a hurdle thanks to Taylor’s relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, Genesis admitted to ‘kinda’ being a Swiftie while expressing his upset over her blossoming romance.
‘She cheated on me,’ he told reporters. ‘No, I don’t like her anymore.’
But it seems as though Genesis has since put his upset to one side as they reunited at the Grammys on February 2 and danced to Shakira together.
The sweet moment was captured on camera and saw the pair joyfully jumping up and down.
A video of Taylor and Genesis’s interactions over the years has circulated far and wide on social media, with many swooning over their friendship.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one cooed: ‘Awwwwwww awwwww awwwww I LOVE this!! Sooooo adorable.’
‘This is why I love Taylor Swift,’ another said, while a third added: ‘This boy doesn’t know how legendary this meeting is.’
