Before heading out on the road for an extended road swing away from the Bay Area, the Golden State Warriors had one last chance to close out their six-game homestand with a win at Chase Center on Monday night with the Orlando Magic in town.
However, cold shooting to start the game dug the Warriors into an early hole against the Magic. Despite trailing in the first quarter, the Warriors’ offense came alive in the second and third quarters while their defense tightened against the Magic. In the second and third periods, the Warriors outscored the Magic 64-41 to enter the fourth quarter with a 15-point advantage.
While the Magic threatened a comeback, the combination of Andrew Wiggins, Steph Curry, Moses Moody and Draymond Green helped close out Orlando to secure a much-needed win, 104-99.
Wiggins continued his impressive stretch with a game-high 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Curry added 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor to go along with five assists.
Moody led the Warriors bench with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with three made triples in 24 minutes. With the Warriors leading by just two points with 1:07 left on the clock, Moody drilled a clutch 3-pointer to help close out the Magic.
In 21 minutes off the bench, Kevon Looney recorded a season-high 15 rebounds. Looney added two points and six assists against the Magic.
The Warriors will now travel on a seven-game road swing that will extend through the All-Star break. The Warriors will play 12 of their next 14 games on the road, starting in Utah on Wednesday against the Jazz.
