New Manchester United signing Patrick Dorgu has spoken publicly for the first time since completing his move from Lecce.
Old Trafford were welcomed to Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven just moments before kick-off against Crystal Palace.
The performance that followed showed exactly why the duo are needed. Diogo Dalot struggled at left wing-back, which is where Patrick Dorgu is expected to feature.
Manchester United paid an initial £25m for Dorgu after several rounds of talks. Ruben Amorim will be eager to integrate him into the side after growing frustrated at the lack of natural wing-back options at the club.
Dorgu is perfect for Amorim’s system and he could make his United debut this Friday against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City side in the FA Cup.
Patrick Dorgu’s biggest strengths
Ahead of his move to Manchester, Dorgu was described as a “machine” due to his impressive athleticism and physicality.
Amorim wants his side to be more physical and aggressive, and Dorgu is confident he can bring those qualities to this United squad.
Speaking in his first interview as a United player, Dorgu said: “I think I’m going to bring a lot of intensity and physique on the pitch, and a lot of energy and running.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager in Ruben and I feel the system suits me really well.”
Intensity, physique, energy and running are all traits that Amorim will love. The Portuguese head coach has been critical towards how much his players run, especially when tracking back to defend.
The wing-back positions in Amorim’s 3-4-3 require players to relentlessly run up and down the pitch – Dorgu is more than capable of doing just that.
Patrick Dorgu comments on working with Ruben Amorim
Amorim was desperate to sign a wing-back this month, so he will be pleased to welcome Dorgu to the club.
At just 20 years old, Dorgu has plenty of time to fulfil his lofty potential at United, and under Amorim he will have a coach that will bring the best out of his qualities at wing-back.
In the same interview as above, Dorgu spoke about working with Amorim at United.
When asked if he had spoken to Amorim, Dorgu replied: “Yeah I just saw him quickly before I came here, so it was nice to see him in person.
On working with Amorim, he added: “I have only heard good stuff about him.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager in Ruben and I feel the system suits me really well.”
