When the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs meet Feb. 9 at the Superdome in New Orleans in Super Bowl 59, it’ll be the second time in three seasons the two teams have played one another for the Lombardi Trophy.
The Chiefs got the better of the last meeting, earning a 38-35 victory on a Harrison Butker 27-yard field goal with eight seconds left in the game.
And while the Chiefs have plenty of motivation to win this time around – they have the opportunity to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls and they’re building arguably the most dominant dynasty the league has ever seen – they now have even more bulletin-board material.
Photos started making the rounds on social media of some expletive-laden apparel targeting pop star Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. Shirts with the phrase “[Expletive] Taylor Swift” on them were allegedly made by Eagles fans and available to purchase online.
The reaction on social media was a mixed bag. Some Eagles fans found the shirts amusing, while others took a stand on social media and stated they thought the shirts were made in poor taste.
However, Swifties and Chiefs fans weren’t shy about calling out Eagles fans for what they believed was a classless gesture. Regardless of how you feel about the Chiefs it makes you look really dumb to take it out on Taylor Swift. She’s not playing,” one fan wrote. “Continuing their reputation as the biggest [expletive] fan base in the league,” another fan proclaimed. ”
This is stupid and kind of gross. We should not be targeting otherwise uninvolved girlfriends, wives, children or other family of opposing teams,” remarked one user.
“This is just pure childish! I was going to root for u guys but I’m seeing so many immaturity one after another,” another user added. “Stay classy @Eagles fans,” replied one fan.
“Most uncivilized fan base in the NFL,” exclaimed another user. Swift will reportedly be in attendance at Super Bowl 59 to support Kelce and the Chiefs, and several reports indicate she’s bringing a group of A-list celebrities with her including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Selena Gomez and Sabrina Carpenter.
