The basketball world is still trying to make sense of the trade that saw Luka Doncic join the Los Angeles Lakers while Anthony Davis ended up with the Dallas Mavericks.
Most have found the idea of the Mavericks choosing to part ways with Doncic, in his prime, as one that makes little to no sense. On the other hand, are the Lakers any closer to contention now that it is Doncic teaming up with LeBron James instead of Davis?
We shall find out. With the February 6 trade deadline fast approaching, there is very little time to sit and reflect though. In fact, the Lakers are already being linked with another player. Someone who has struggled since joining the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer.
According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Lakers are exploring a potential trade for Caleb Martin of the 76ers. He wrote: “Meanwhile, a source said the Lakers and Sacramento Kings are conducting due diligence on a potential trade for Caleb Martin.”
It was in the offseason that Martin joined the 76ers after having turned down a significantly larger contract from the Heat earlier in the summer.
Unfortunately, it has not been smooth sailing for Martin since leaving Miami.
He has struggled to produce the same performances in a Sixers jersey. Martin is currently averaging 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
He has faced fitness issues as well and has featured only 31 times so far this season. In the right system, Martin can be an asset though.
We saw that during his time with the Heat.
He has even proven himself in the playoffs. So, it is not hard to understand why teams like the Lakers and the Kings might be keeping an eye on him. It remains to be seen if there is a deal to be done.
