It’s officially official! Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has been named a 2024-25 All-Star, the league announced Thursday. This marks the first time that Herro’s made the All-Star Game, which will be held in San Francisco, Calif., on Feb. 16.
Herro becomes just the fourth guard in franchise history to make the All-Star team, joining Tim Hardaway, Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic as the only three guards. he also becomes the third player the team has drafted to make an All-Star team with them, joining Wade and Heat big man Bam Adebayo, who was drafted two seasons before Herro.
The 25-year-old is having the best and most efficient season of his career, putting up career marks in scoring (24.1), rebounding (5.6), playmaking (5.4), shooting from the floor (47.4) and 3-point shooting (40.0) on the highest 3-point volume (9.7 3PA) of his career.
The head coaches were the only ones who voted for the All-Star Reserves. We don’t know how the votes were divided between Herro and the other guards, but it’s fair to suggest that the other coaches recognized his growth as a player in multiple ways.
The Heat are 9.3 points better per 100 possessions offensively (95th percentile) with a 3.7 effective field goal percentage boost (91st percentile) with Tyler Herro on the floor versus when they’re not, according to Cleaning The Glass. He’s essentially carried a dormant offense that’s been a middle-of-the-pack unit throughout–and a bottom-tier unit when he isn’t on the floor.
