A recent update from a transfer insider reveals that Richard Hughes has a specific position in mind for potential additions to Liverpool’s squad in 2025.
For the past four years, Andy Robertson has been the primary choice at left-back, with Kostas Tsimikas as a reliable backup.
However, reports suggest that Liverpool may look to shake things up in this area.
Liverpool has set its sights on two Premier League left-backs, with Graeme Bailey of TBR Football reporting that Anfield’s decision-makers view this position as one with room for improvement.
Liverpool has reportedly identified Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri as their preferred target, monitoring him closely after tracking his progress for over a year.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Ajax’s Jorrel Hato are also under consideration, with Liverpool scouts keeping a close eye on both.
Ait-Nouri, in particular, stands out as an exciting prospect. During the summer, Liverpool reportedly engaged in talks with Wolves over a possible deal for the 23-year-old.
Recently, he has been on impressive form, scoring in three of his last four appearances for Wolves, including a goal against Liverpool in September.
His stats show him among the top 1% in Europe’s top five leagues for successful dribbles per 90 minutes, as well as high rankings in non-penalty xG and goals per game, highlighting his attacking potential.
Bailey’s report comes as Robertson had a tough outing against Arsenal, which could also affect Tsimikas’ future if he is pushed further down the depth chart.
While it remains uncertain if Liverpool will pursue Ait-Nouri in 2025, he’s likely to remain a hot topic as Hughes and the recruitment team consider future plans.
