EXCLUSIVE: Gavin Lux Opens Up About Relationship With Dodgers’ Andrew Friedman

The Los Angeles Dodgers surprised many when it was announced Gavin Lux was being traded. The departure meant that once again another fan favorite and World Series champion was gone; however, Lux reaffirmed there was no bad blood.

Lux spoke about his relationship with president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman in a recent appearance on MLB Network.

“Me and Andrew have a really good relationship,” Lux said. “We’d been together for nine, 10 years. Obviously, I don’t know all the details. I don’t know who else was in trade talks, but I agree. I think this is a really good place for me to go. Have a good opportunity to play and help some of these young guys. Hopefully I can be an open book with some of the experiences I’ve had. I’ve had a ton of ups and downs, a lot of different experiences, so hopefully I can just help out.”

Fans weren’t the only people sad to see Lux go. Teoscar Hernández and Miguel Rojas both posted a farewell to the second baseman on their Instagram stories.

“Best of luck to my brother @therealgavinlux for the rest of his career, World Champs Forever,” Rojas wrote.

Though Lux will no longer be in Los Angeles, he starts a new chapter of his career with a young, up and coming team. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have had one of the most successful offseasons in the league. It’s difficult to name a team that has had a better winter than the Dodgers.

The Dodgers have acquired and retained much talent, including Blake Snell, Blake Treinen, Michael Conforto, Teoscar Hernández, and Hyeseong Kim. The addition of Kim came as somewhat of surprise since he was never linked to the Dodgers throughout the offseason.

However, the Dodgers were the first to contact Kim when he was posted, helping the organization ink a deal with the Korean infielder. Now, with less than a month before spring training begins, the Dodgers have a relatively complete roster.

Though some players from the 2024 roster have found a new team such as Lux, their name will always be mentioned in Dodgers lore.
