Marcus Rashford’s potential transfer to Tottenham may create some backstage issues.
As reported by the Independent (13 January), Ange Postecoglou’s team has begun preliminary discussions regarding a possible loan move for Rashford this January.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio shared via Milan News (14 January) that Marcus Rashford’s brother, who also acts as his agent, was set to meet with Manchester United on Wednesday (15 January) to discuss the player’s future.
However, former Spurs scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, believes it would not be wise for the North London club to pursue Rashford.
“I’d be very surprised if Manchester United allowed him to move to another Premier League club,” King commented.
“Additionally, several Spurs players are on high wages, but not at the level of Rashford’s salary. Bringing him in would not only be costly but could also disrupt Tottenham’s wage structure.”
“If that were to happen, I believe it could unsettle some of the squad. Son Heung-min is likely the highest earner at the club right now, but his salary is nowhere near the level of what Rashford is making.”
“Because of this, I don’t think Son Heung-min would be pleased if someone like Rashford joined and earned a higher salary than him. Tottenham already has enough issues to deal with, so why create another one?”
Tottenham to Sign Manchester United Forward Marcus Rashford?
Tottenham Hotspur, known for their careful financial management, particularly with wages, could face a significant challenge in securing Marcus Rashford. Club chairman Daniel Levy has often been urged to rethink the wage structure, but paying Rashford’s salary outright would still be a surprising move.
However, if Manchester United opts to part ways with the forward, they might agree to cover a portion of his wages, making a potential deal more feasible for Spurs.
This arrangement could make the transfer more viable and provide Ange Postecoglou with another high-quality attacking option to strengthen Tottenham’s frontline.
However, if the potential transfer risks creating internal issues within the squad, it may not be worth pursuing.
