The Chiefs announced Friday that cornerback Jaylen Watson has been activated from injured reserve, paving the way for him to play Saturday in the AFC Divisional round.
With Watson in the lineup earlier in the season, Kansas City’s defense ranked No. 1 in the league in DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average). Without him, Kansas City’s defense slipped to 24th in DVOA in the NFL from Weeks 9-13.
Watson broke his ankle in a Week 7 win over the San Francisco 49ers. He practiced fully in all three of Kansas City’s practices this week, the team said on its injury report.
While the Chiefs will get Watson back in action, wide receiver Mecole Hardman will not play against Houston. Hardman, who caught the walk-off touchdown pass in overtime of last season’s Super Bowl, has been ruled out due to a knee injury.

Hardman had his 21-day practice window opened as he remains on injured reserve. He last played in a Black Friday game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chiefs also said Friday they activated practice squad linebacker Swayze Bozeman and safety Deon Bush via standard elevation.
Saturday’s game between the Chiefs and Texans will kick off at 3:30 p.m. CT.
